Off Campus Star Ella Bright Addresses Concerns Over Nearly 10-Year Age Gap with Co-Star Belmont Cameli
Ella Bright is setting the record straight about her working relationship with Off Campus co-star Belmont Cameli, emphasizing that their professional dynamic has always been positive and comfortable despite their nearly 10-year age difference. The 19-year-old British-American actress recently defended their on-screen intimacy and collaboration during an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch.
Bright, who portrays music student Hannah Wells, shared her perspective on filming steamy scenes with Cameli, 28, who plays hockey star Garrett Graham. She revealed that she was 18 years old when production began and acknowledged that some fans have expressed surprise upon learning about their age gap. However, she stressed that she entered the project fully informed and enthusiastic about the role.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2):format(webp)/Ella-Bright-Belmont-Cameli443-05262026-e1d21810b6aa40deb4cf36294dc0a4af.jpg)
“It’s very funny when they… I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show,” Bright explained. She described falling in love with both the character of Hannah and the scripts immediately. “There was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this,” she added.
The Prime Video series Off Campus, based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series, follows the lives of students at the fictional Briar University. It centers on the elite college ice hockey team as they navigate complex relationships, friendships, and the challenges of young adulthood. Bright’s character Hannah enters into a fake dating arrangement with Cameli’s character Garrett to attract the attention of her crush Justin, played by Josh Heuston. As their pretend relationship develops, genuine feelings emerge, creating emotional complications.
Bright acknowledged that she understands why some viewers might have concerns about the age difference but emphasized that she never felt uncomfortable or excluded on set. “I get people’s concern, but also not once did I feel, one, left out from being younger than everybody,” she said. “We’re all such a family and everyone was just more than perfect, and I couldn’t be more comfortable on this set with these people. So it is funny when they say that. I’m like I’m good.”
Podcast host Amanda Hirsch supported Bright’s position, noting that her character is portrayed as an adult college student. While acknowledging that some material in the series can be “raunchy,” Hirsch described it as not crossing into extreme territory.
The conversation also touched on the show’s approach to nudity and intimacy. Bright explained that while her character Hannah’s scenes involve partial nudity, her co-star Mika Abdalla’s character Allie required full nudity due to the confident and free-spirited nature of the role. “That was always from the beginning, the idea all [of] Hannah’s auditioning knew it was just going to be partial and for Allie it was going to be full, so everyone had full understanding of what we were going into,” Bright said. “So I don’t get it.”:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2):format(webp)/Off-Campus2-051226-bd18a04c096540e6a9831da35150b4f3.jpg)
Earlier in May, Bright had spoken warmly about her working relationship with Cameli during an appearance at Creation Entertainment’s Page, Screen and Everything in Between convention in Whippany, New Jersey. She recalled their first meeting during chemistry reads, noting the humorous moments during their initial kiss scene rehearsal. “I remember the first time I met Belmont, we did the first kiss scene between Hannah and Garrett, obviously without the kissing,” she shared. “But it was really funny, because we would get really, really close and they would go, ‘And cut!’ It was really, really fun.”
Off-camera, Bright described Cameli as “the best” and said they became “very fast friends.” Their friendship developed naturally after exchanging numbers following the chemistry reads. “We have so much fun together. He’s the greatest,” she said. “When you spend that much time with someone on set — we’d have like 15, 16-hour days — you have to be just the best of friends. I really look up to him a lot.”
Bright’s comments highlight the professional environment on the Off Campus set, where clear communication and mutual respect appear to have created a supportive atmosphere for the young cast. Her emphasis on feeling comfortable and valued despite being one of the younger members of the ensemble counters concerns about age dynamics in intimate scenes.
The series has gained significant attention for its handling of contemporary college life, relationships, and personal growth. While some viewers have focused on the age difference between Bright and Cameli, the actress herself appears unfazed and appreciative of the opportunity to portray a complex character like Hannah.
As Off Campus continues to stream on Prime Video and attract new viewers, Bright’s perspective offers valuable insight into the realities of bringing beloved book characters to life. Her maturity in addressing fan concerns while maintaining professional boundaries demonstrates a thoughtful approach to navigating sudden fame and public scrutiny.
The strong friendship between Bright and Cameli likely contributes significantly to the authentic chemistry viewers see between Hannah and Garrett on screen. Their ability to separate their close working relationship from any romantic speculation showcases emotional intelligence that benefits both their performances and personal well-being.
For fans of the series, understanding the distinction between the fictional romance and the actors’ real-life friendship can enhance appreciation for the performances while respecting the cast’s personal lives. Bright’s candid comments serve as a reminder that strong on-screen partnerships are often built on professional respect and camaraderie rather than real-world romance.
As the show potentially moves into future seasons, audiences can expect continued development of Hannah and Garrett’s relationship while Bright and Cameli maintain their strong platonic bond behind the scenes. The actress’s positive experience on set suggests that Off Campus has created a collaborative environment where young talent can thrive both professionally and personally.
Bright’s willingness to address these topics openly reflects a mature approach to her rising career. By focusing on her craft, her comfort on set, and her genuine friendships with co-stars, she sets a positive example for other young actors navigating the entertainment industry’s unique challenges and opportunities.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(669x204:671x206):format(webp)/Ella-Bright-and-Belmont-Cameli-052226-e8f5188445e64c719eb3d7486e89cd59.jpg)
