“I NEVER EXPECTED IT TO BE LIKE THIS — AND IT CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR ME.” — Emma Elle Paterson sparked a stir as she took to social media to reveal the raw reality behind filming the infamous butt-sniffing scene in The Boys. In an unfiltered video message, she described the unexpected challenges and awkward moments on set, hinting at tensions that had built behind the cameras. Her candid reflections suggested there was more going on during filming than fans had ever imagined. The post subtly alluded to conflicts with co-stars and creative decisions that were never fully disclosed. Paterson’s openness added a layer of intrigue, showing that the scene carried emotional and professional stakes far beyond the finished episode. The revelation left audiences reconsidering the dynamics on set and the lengths actors endure to bring controversial moments to life.

The Boys Star Emma Elle Paterson Opens Up About Filming One of the Show’s Wildest and Most Unforgettable Scenes

Joining The Boys is rarely a conventional acting experience, and Emma Elle Paterson discovered that reality almost immediately after landing her role in the fifth and final season of Amazon Prime Video’s hit superhero satire.

In an exclusive conversation with Where Is The Buzz, Paterson reflected on her experience portraying Sheline, the cat-obsessed member of the superhero group Teenage Kix. While the actress knew she was stepping into one of television’s most outrageous series, she admitted that nothing could have fully prepared her for the bizarre and unforgettable scenes that awaited her.

One particular moment has become a major talking point among fans. In Season 5, Episode 7, Sheline participates in an extended and deliberately absurd butt-sniffing sequence alongside Zach McGowan’s character. The scene quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the season, generating reactions ranging from shock and laughter to disbelief across social media.

Looking back on the experience, Paterson described the entire process as surreal from the very beginning. The Boys' Star Emma Elle Paterson Reveals What It Was Really Like to Film That Butt-Sniffing Scene

“It was honestly a crazy moment,” she explained. “I remember attending my first introductions in Michaella Starr’s office and feeling incredibly nervous. Walking into a room filled with the creative team behind one of the biggest television shows in the world is intimidating for any actor. I wanted to make a good impression and prove that I belonged there.”

However, any anxiety she felt disappeared almost immediately after meeting series creator and showrunner Erik Kripke.

According to Paterson, Kripke wasted no time introducing her to the unconventional direction planned for Sheline.

“Almost as soon as he entered the room, he said something along the lines of, ‘We’re going to do some pretty crazy things with your character.’ Then he started explaining how cats behave and how the show intended to embrace some of those habits in the most exaggerated way possible,” she recalled with a laugh.

Kripke reportedly outlined several eccentric character traits and scenes, including litter box humor, excessive grooming habits, and the infamous sniffing sequence. Rather than making the actress uncomfortable, the conversation had the opposite effect.

“The ice was broken instantly,” Paterson said. “I forgot all about being nervous because everyone was so open and honest about what they wanted to achieve. Once I understood the tone, I just became excited. I realized I was being given an opportunity to create a character people would never forget.”

For Paterson, one of the most impressive aspects of the experience was Kripke’s ability to encourage performers to fully embrace the show’s fearless approach to storytelling.

“He has this incredible way of making actors feel comfortable pushing boundaries,” she explained. “No matter how outrageous an idea sounds on paper, he gives you confidence that there’s a purpose behind it. He creates an environment where everyone feels safe enough to take creative risks.”

As production moved forward, the cast and crew worked carefully to ensure that even the strangest scenes remained professional and comfortable for everyone involved.

Paterson credited intimacy coordinator Casey Hudecki for helping guide the actors through the process.

“When we got to filming the sequence, Casey was amazing,” she said. “Everything was discussed beforehand, every movement was planned, and there was constant communication. It allowed everyone to relax and focus on making the scene as funny as possible.”

The actress also praised her scene partner Zach McGowan, revealing that the two shared the same goal from the start.

“Zach is such a fun person to work with,” she said. “The moment we started rehearsing, we both agreed that if we were going to do this scene, we should commit completely. We wanted it to be as ridiculous, uncomfortable, and over-the-top as possible because that’s what The Boys does best.”

According to Paterson, much of the filming process was filled with laughter.Over in The Boys universe, "supe-influencers" Maitreyi Ramakrishnan's Countess Crow, Emma Elle Paterson's Sheline, and Dylan Colton's Jetstreak - Teenage Kix - dropped a livestream. “There were moments when the crew could barely keep a straight face,” she recalled. “Every time we thought we had reached the limit of how absurd the scene could become, someone would come up with another funny idea. It felt less like filming a serious television drama and more like a group of people trying not to laugh during the weirdest sketch imaginable.”

Despite its comedic nature, Paterson believes the sequence also helped establish Sheline’s unique personality within the world of The Boys.

“Sheline isn’t supposed to be a normal person,” she explained. “She’s eccentric, strange, and completely committed to her cat-like identity. The scene may be shocking, but it instantly tells the audience everything they need to know about her.”

Following the season’s release, many viewers expressed disappointment that Sheline did not receive more screen time. Across social media platforms, fans argued that the character had significant potential and could have played a larger role in the overall story.

Paterson admitted she was surprised by the reaction.

“That response was incredibly flattering,” she said. “When you join a franchise with such a passionate fan base, you always worry about how people will receive your character. I knew Teenage Kix already had a certain reputation among fans, so I felt a lot of pressure to live up to expectations.”

The actress added that seeing viewers ask for more Sheline content was one of the most rewarding aspects of the entire experience.

“As an actor, you always hope your performance leaves an impression. The fact that people wanted to see more of her means the character connected with audiences, and that’s really special.”

Paterson also spoke warmly about her fellow Teenage Kix cast members, including Dylan Gage, who portrays Jetstreak, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who plays Countess Crow.

“Dylan and Maitreyi were fantastic scene partners,” she said. “We developed a really fun dynamic behind the scenes, and I think that chemistry translated on screen.”

“My favorite part was how competitive and argumentative they were,” she explained. “We were constantly teasing each other, fighting over ridiculous things, and acting like spoiled siblings trapped in the same house. That dynamic created so many opportunities for comedy.”

When asked whether there was a scene she wished had been included in the final season, Paterson immediately had an answer.

“If I could add one extra moment, I’d love to explore more of what life was like inside the content house where Teenage Kix lived,” she said. “There were so many possibilities. Maybe Sheline accidentally eats Countess Crow’s birds, or maybe the three of us get into some ridiculous argument that spirals completely out of control.”

She laughed while imagining the scenario, suggesting there were countless opportunities to further develop the group’s chaotic relationships.

Beyond the outrageous humor and shocking moments, Paterson believes the final season successfully captured everything that made The Boys such a cultural phenomenon.

Over the course of five seasons, the series became known for combining brutal satire, dark comedy, graphic action, and surprisingly emotional character arcs. The show consistently challenged traditional superhero storytelling while pushing television boundaries in ways few other productions dared attempt.

For Paterson, being part of the final chapter felt like joining television history.

“It was an honor to contribute to a show that has had such a huge impact on popular culture,” she said. “Everyone involved cared deeply about ending the story in a memorable way.”

“I’d give it a perfect score,” she said enthusiastically. “I think fans are going to appreciate how everything comes together. It’s bold, emotional, funny, shocking, and completely true to what The Boys has always been.”

While Sheline’s journey may have been brief, Paterson’s unforgettable performance and willingness to embrace one of the strangest moments in the show’s history ensured that her character left a lasting impression. In a series famous for delivering outrageous scenes, that is no small achievement.
