Josh Duhamel Opens Up About Feeling Like He Lived in Fergie’s Shadow During Their MarriageInside Josh Duhamel And Audra Mari's Intimate Fargo Wedding | Vogue Australia

Josh Duhamel has reflected candidly on his marriage to singer Fergie, admitting that he sometimes struggled with the difference in their levels of fame during their relationship. Although the actor had established a successful career of his own, he acknowledged that Fergie’s enormous popularity occasionally made him feel as though he was standing in her shadow.

During an interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, Duhamel explained that the issue was largely connected to his own ego rather than anything Fergie did intentionally. He suggested that she probably did not view their differing levels of fame as a problem in the same way he did. At the time, however, Fergie was one of the biggest names in pop music, and adjusting to life alongside such a high-profile celebrity was not always easy for him.

Duhamel openly admitted that he sometimes found himself thinking about which one of them was the bigger star. Looking back, he believes that insecurity was primarily his own struggle.

“It’s probably my own ego more than anything,” Duhamel explained while discussing the subject. He noted that Fergie was an enormous star during their marriage and that he frequently felt as though he was living in her shadow.

The couple married in 2009, a particularly significant period in Fergie’s career. As a member of the Black Eyed Peas, she was enjoying extraordinary international success. Around the time of their wedding, the group dominated the music charts with major hits including “I Gotta Feeling” and “Boom Boom Pow.”

For Duhamel, being married to one of the most recognizable female performers in the world represented a major adjustment. Although he already had a successful acting career, the scale of Fergie’s fame was different from anything he had previously experienced.

Duhamel was not an unknown figure when they got together. He had already established himself as an actor through projects such as Las Vegas and All My Children. He also became widely recognized for his role in the Transformers movie franchise. Nevertheless, Fergie’s international music career placed her at the center of a completely different level of celebrity attention.

According to Duhamel, that contrast sometimes affected how he viewed himself.

He explained that the situation represented a significant change in his life because his wife was such a massive star. While he admired her success, he also had to adjust to being part of a relationship in which his partner’s public profile could sometimes overshadow his own.LAS VEGAS - DECEMBER 31: Fergie (R) and her fiance Josh Duhamel ring in the New Year at LAVO at The Palazzo in The Venetian Hotel and Casino on December 31, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite those challenges, Duhamel emphasized that Fergie herself was not fundamentally different from the person he knew privately. Behind the global celebrity image, he described her as a remarkably normal person who cared deeply about her family.

He also spoke warmly about her role as a mother, describing her as a good mom and making it clear that he continues to respect her greatly.

Although their marriage eventually ended, Duhamel said that they have maintained a strong relationship. Their shared commitment to their son, Axl, has helped them remain connected as co-parents.

Axl is now 12, and both Duhamel and Fergie have continued to play important roles in his life. Rather than allowing their divorce to create ongoing conflict, the former couple has worked to maintain a cooperative parenting relationship.

Duhamel also revealed that Fergie has developed a positive relationship with his current wife, Audra Mari. That detail appears to be particularly important to him because he wants the different parts of his family to coexist peacefully.

Duhamel married Mari after his relationship with Fergie ended, and the couple have since welcomed children of their own. They share a young son, Shepherd, who is two years old, and have also expanded their family with a baby daughter.

As a result, Duhamel’s family now includes children from different stages of his life, making a healthy relationship between his former wife and current wife especially valuable.

The actor said that Fergie and Mari get along well, something he clearly appreciates. For him, maintaining harmony between the people closest to him is more important than allowing old tensions or disagreements to interfere with family life.

Duhamel acknowledged that situations involving former spouses and new partners can sometimes become complicated. When children are involved, disagreements between adults can easily affect the entire family. He therefore considers it a blessing that Fergie and Mari have been able to approach their relationship in a respectful and friendly manner.

He expressed a strong desire for everyone involved to remain on good terms. His priority is ensuring that there is no unnecessary conflict or hostility between family members.

The actor described their approach as civil and peaceful, suggesting that the situation could have become much more difficult under different circumstances. Instead, the adults involved have apparently made an effort to keep things respectful for the benefit of their children.

Looking back at his marriage to Fergie, Duhamel seems capable of separating his personal insecurities from the reality of their relationship. While he sometimes struggled with feeling less famous than his wife, he does not appear to blame her for those emotions.

Instead, he recognizes that his feelings were largely connected to his own pride and expectations.

That distinction is significant. Celebrity couples frequently face intense public scrutiny, and differences in career success can create complicated emotions. When one partner becomes substantially more famous, the other may struggle with questions about identity, recognition, and personal achievement.

Duhamel’s experience demonstrates that even someone with a successful career can occasionally feel overshadowed when their partner reaches an extraordinary level of fame.

For Fergie, the period was one of the most successful stages of her career. The Black Eyed Peas were international superstars, and her solo work further established her as a major music celebrity. She was regularly featured in the media and recognized around the world.

Duhamel, meanwhile, was building his reputation as a Hollywood actor. His work in Transformers gave him considerable visibility, while his television background had already made him familiar to audiences.

Their careers were both successful, but they operated in different entertainment worlds.

That difference may have contributed to Duhamel’s feeling that he was sometimes living in Fergie’s shadow. Yet he also appears to recognize that fame does not necessarily reflect the quality of a person’s character or the value of their contribution to a relationship.

His comments about Fergie focus not only on her celebrity status but also on her qualities as a person and mother. That perspective suggests that his feelings toward his former wife have matured over time.

Today, Duhamel seems more comfortable with his own identity and accomplishments. He is happily married to Mari and has built a growing family. At the same time, he remains committed to being a present father toLOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 20: Recording artist Fergie (L) and actor Josh Duhamel, both wearing TOM FORD, attends the TOM FORD Autumn/Winter 2015 Womenswear Collection Presentation at Milk Studios in Los Angeles on February 20, 2015.
