Morrone, 28, stars as Rachel alongside Adam DiMarco, 35, who plays her fiancé Nicky, in the series that tracks the five-day countdown to their wedding amid a deadly family curse.

In the climactic final episode, the curse that threatens Rachel’s family if they fail to marry their soulmate expands to Nicky’s side. He watches in horror as his mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and sister (Gus Birney) die in gruesome, bloody ways. Previously skeptical of the curse, Nicky is forced to push Rachel into going through with their wedding, unintentionally causing her to die as well. Yet Morrone described Nicky as “such a loser in that last scene.” “I hate watching it,” she admitted. “Nicky’s such a loser.”

DiMarco seemed taken aback by her blunt assessment. “Really?” he asked. “God. I mean, he’s trying his best.” He explained that the character’s confusion and desperation were intentional, designed to heighten the tension and horror of the scene. Morrone, however, was particularly affected by another moment: the scene in which Nicky is panicked, pacing by his mother’s bedside as she bleeds out. “When I saw you with your mom, I got the worst ick,” she said. “I was like, ‘I am done with this man.’” DiMarco responded with a smile, acknowledging her reaction. “I know. That’s exactly what I was trying to do. That was great.”

Despite the shocking finale, both actors left room for speculation about the series’ future. DiMarco noted that showrunner Haley Z. Boston could take the story in numerous directions if a second season comes to fruition. “It could be a time cut, it could pick up directly where we left off, or it could explore a different curse altogether,” he explained. “It might even take an American Horror Story-style approach, with the same cast playing different characters. Really, it’s up to her.”

Morrone also offered her take on Nicky’s possible next steps. “I like to think that Nicky does try and look for Rachel,” she said. DiMarco added that the character might seek closure after realizing he wasn’t hallucinating. “He didn’t die. He still believes she’s his soulmate, and maybe she realizes that later too. Who knows?”

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen positions itself as horror’s perspective on milestones in a woman’s life. Officially, it’s described as “horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife,” akin to how Carrie depicts girlhood as a horror story and Rosemary’s Baby portrays motherhood in a chilling context.
