‘IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN ONE DAY’ — BENITO SKINNER REVEALS THE HEATED RIVALRY CROSSOVER FANS ALMOST GOT BEFORE FILMING PLANS CHANGED EVERYTHING The Overcompensating creator has confirmed he tried to bring Hudson Williams and Robbie G.K. into Season 2, but both actors were forced to pass because of their Heated Rivalry commitments. Even so, Skinner’s optimistic promise has already sparked fresh excitement that the crossover fans never expected may simply be waiting for the right moment.

Fans almost got the crossover nobody knew they desperately needed.

During Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest in Los Angeles, Overcompensating creator and star Benito Skinner revealed that he tried to recruit not one, but two stars from Heated Rivalry for the upcoming second season of his hit comedy. Unfortunately for fans, scheduling conflicts got in the way, leaving what could have been one of streaming television’s most unexpected crossovers on the drawing board.

Still, Skinner made one thing very clear: the idea isn’t dead.

It’s simply been delayed.

Speaking during an interview at the fan event, Skinner shared that he had hoped Hudson Williams would join Season 2 of Overcompensating. However, the actor’s increasingly packed schedule ultimately made the appearance impossible.

Williams has become one of Prime Video’s fastest-rising stars thanks to his performance as Shane Hollander in Heated Rivalry, a role that has earned him an enormous online following and helped turn the hockey romance into one of the platform’s biggest breakout hits.

With Season 2 of Heated Rivalry preparing to begin production, it’s easy to understand why his calendar quickly filled up.

Still, that didn’t stop fans from imagining what might have been.

Skinner wasn’t finished there.

He also revealed that Robbie G.K., who appeared in three episodes of Overcompensating Season 1 as Riley, was invited to return for the sophomore season.

Like Williams, however, Robbie was simply too busy.

“And we tried to bring Riley back, Robbie G.K., who we love so much,” Skinner explained before adding that the actor’s schedule ultimately prevented the reunion from happening.

Rather than sounding disappointed, Skinner remained optimistic.

Those boys are busy now, he noted, but someday the collaboration will happen.

That brief promise has already become enough to keep fans hopeful.

Instead of treating the missed opportunity as a permanent rejection, many viewers have interpreted Skinner’s comments as confirmation that he’s determined to work with the Heated Rivalry cast whenever everyone’s schedules eventually align.

Given the popularity of both series, that possibility suddenly feels much more realistic than it did a few months ago.

Part of the scheduling conflict comes down to simple timing.

While Overcompensating has already entered production on its second season, Heated Rivalry is preparing to begin filming its own sophomore outing.

With both productions operating on overlapping schedules, asking actors to bounce between two major television series becomes a significant logistical challenge.

Skinner acknowledged exactly that during the interview.

Rather than expressing frustration, he emphasized his excitement for Heated Rivalry‘s return, saying the actors needed to go make their own show.

It’s difficult to argue with that reasoning.

Following the enormous success of Heated Rivalry, expectations for Season 2 have reached extraordinary levels.

The series quickly became one of Prime Video’s most talked-about dramas, generating massive engagement across social media thanks to the chemistry between Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie.

As production gears up again, the cast’s full attention is understandably focused on continuing that momentum.

Even without the crossover, Overcompensating Season 2 already sounds significantly bigger than its predecessor.

Cast members and producers have spent the past several weeks teasing new storylines during appearances at Obsessed Fest, offering fans a better sense of what lies ahead.

One recurring theme appears to be emotional growth.

Although the first season balanced outrageous comedy with heartfelt coming-of-age moments, the sophomore season plans to explore considerably heavier material.

According to the cast, themes involving grief and loss will become more central to the story.

Many viewers believe those storylines may naturally connect to Carmen’s ongoing journey following the death of her brother.

Her emotional arc already stood out during the first season, and expanding it further could give the comedy additional emotional depth.

Skinner has also hinted that Season 2 tackles another particularly sensitive issue frequently encountered during college life.

He hasn’t revealed exactly what that storyline involves, but he suggested it reflects experiences that many university students face.

The combination of serious topics and absurd comedy has become one of Overcompensating‘s defining strengths.

Rather than separating humor from emotional honesty, the series frequently allows both to exist simultaneously.

That approach appears set to continue.

Fortunately, fans shouldn’t worry that the show is abandoning its chaotic personality.

Season 2 also promises plenty of outrageous comedy.

One of the biggest reveals from Obsessed Fest involved an upcoming Spring Break episode.

According to cast members, the storyline will feature costumes, oversized platform shoes, and Carmen wearing fairy wings.

Those few details alone have already convinced many fans that the episode could become one of the season’s comedic highlights.

Adding even more excitement, internationally renowned DJ Zedd will appear as himself during the Spring Break storyline.

His cameo represents one of several celebrity appearances expected throughout the new season.

The expanding guest roster reflects the show’s growing popularity.

Several familiar faces will also be returning.

Benito Skinner naturally reprises his leading role, alongside Mary Beth Barone, Wally Baram, and Rish Shah.

Meanwhile, Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and Lukas Gage are all expected to return following memorable guest appearances during Season 1.

One especially welcome development involves Holmes, whose fan-favorite character has now been promoted to series regular.

After becoming one of the breakout personalities of the first season, the promotion guarantees substantially more screen time moving forward.

Fans who quickly embraced the character have celebrated the news across social media.

Season 2 will also introduce an impressive collection of newcomers.

Tom Francis joins the ensemble as Declan Bishop.

Australian actress Aisha Dee has signed on to portray Naomi.

AnnaSophia Robb enters the series as Chels.

Patrick Regan will also appear in a guest role as Preston.

The additions continue expanding the fictional college world that Overcompensating has steadily built since its debut.

Another character expected to receive additional attention is George.

Actor Owen Thiele recently hinted that viewers have only scratched the surface of his character.

Although George often appeared confident throughout Season 1, future episodes will reportedly reveal new vulnerabilities and insecurities beneath that exterior.

Many fans welcomed that tease, arguing that George deserved considerably more screen time during the first season.

It appears they’ll get exactly that.

Despite all these updates, one major piece of information remains unavailable.

Prime Video has not officially announced a release date.

Production is currently underway, suggesting filming is progressing smoothly, but the streaming platform has yet to reveal when audiences can expect new episodes.

Industry observers believe a late 2026 premiere remains the most realistic possibility, though that timeline has not been confirmed.

Likewise, there is still no official trailer.

Instead, fans have been piecing together clues through interviews, convention panels, behind-the-scenes photographs, and social media posts from the cast.

While that may require some patience, it has also created considerable anticipation.

Every new interview seems to reveal another intriguing detail without giving too much away.

As for the missed Heated Rivalry crossover, the disappointment may ultimately prove temporary.

Skinner clearly remains enthusiastic about collaborating with Hudson Williams and Robbie G.K., and neither actor appears opposed to the idea.

The obstacle wasn’t creative differences or lack of interest.

It was simply timing.

In today’s television landscape, where streaming services increasingly encourage shared audiences between popular originals, crossovers have become more common than ever.

If both Overcompensating and Heated Rivalry continue growing, the chances of those worlds briefly colliding may only improve.

For now, fans will have to settle for imagining what could have been while looking forward to two of Prime Video’s most anticipated returning series.

And judging by everything revealed so far, both shows appear determined to make their second seasons even bigger than their first.
