OFF CAMPUS CREATOR HINTS SEASON 2 WILL LEAVE FANS IN TEARS — AND READERS FEAR A PAINFUL BOOK MOMENT MAY NOT BE FAR AWAY Season 2 is expected to celebrate Dean and Allie’s romance, but Louisa Levy suggests the love story won’t come without heartbreak. After teasing an emotional season at Obsessed Fest, fans familiar with The Score are already connecting the dots to one life-changing event they never hoped to witness on screen.

Fans already know that Off Campus Season 2 will shift its focus to Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes, but according to creator Louisa Levy, the upcoming chapter won’t just deliver romance and comedy. It will also bring some of the most emotional moments the series has tackled so far.

During Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest on Saturday, June 27, Levy offered a small but intriguing tease about what audiences can expect when the hit adaptation returns. While avoiding major spoilers, she warned viewers to prepare for an emotional ride, revealing that there will be “lots of tears” throughout the season.

‘Off-Campus’ Author Elle Kennedy Explains Why She Almost Killed Off a Main Character

For longtime readers of Elle Kennedy’s bestselling Off Campus novels, that simple comment immediately sparked speculation.

Readers of The Score, the third book in Kennedy’s series that serves as the basis for Season 2, know that Dean’s story contains a heartbreaking family tragedy that dramatically changes his outlook on life. Although Levy didn’t specify whether the television adaptation will include that storyline, her remarks have convinced many fans that one of the books’ most devastating moments could be making its way to the screen.

Whether the series follows the novel exactly or introduces its own version of those events remains unknown. What is clear, however, is that the creative team intends to balance the humor and romance that made Season 1 so popular with much heavier emotional material.

That combination has always been one of the defining strengths of Kennedy’s novels.

While the books are known for witty banter, steamy romance, and memorable friendships, each installment also explores deeper themes involving grief, family, trauma, self-worth, and the difficult transition into adulthood.

The Prime Video adaptation has embraced that same philosophy from the very beginning.

According to the show’s official synopsis, Off Campus follows an elite college hockey team and the women who become part of their lives as they navigate love, heartbreak, friendship, and personal growth during one of the most transformative periods of their lives.

Season 1 introduced viewers to Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham while simultaneously laying the groundwork for the larger ensemble that will continue carrying the story forward.

In a surprising creative decision, however, the adaptation chose not to follow the publication order of Kennedy’s novels.

Many readers initially expected Logan’s romance to headline Season 2, since his book follows The Deal in the original series. Instead, Prime Video announced that Dean and Allie would become the central couple in the sophomore season.

The announcement caught even dedicated fans off guard.

Fortunately, Mika Abdalla, who portrays Allie, believes the decision makes perfect sense.

Speaking exclusively with Us Weekly earlier this year, Abdalla explained that Season 1 intentionally introduced more of Dean and Allie’s relationship than readers may have expected because their story naturally overlaps with Hannah’s.

“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla said.

She admitted that one of the things she’s most excited about is giving audiences the opportunity to fully explore their relationship after only getting glimpses of it during the first season.

“You just want to see more,” she added.

That early setup also allowed the writers to establish emotional connections that will pay off once the spotlight officially shifts toward Dean and Allie.

Rather than treating each season as an isolated love story, the television adaptation has chosen to weave multiple romances together from the beginning.

Abdalla explained that this interconnected approach reflects the spirit of Kennedy’s novels, even if the timeline occasionally changes.

“Allie and Hannah’s story lines are so connected to one another that it just made a lot of sense to touch on that this season,” she explained.

She added that all of the books build upon one another, making it difficult to completely separate one couple’s journey from another’s.

“It didn’t really make sense to not include certain elements from the other books in this season,” Abdalla said.

That storytelling philosophy has allowed the show to create a richer ensemble while keeping longtime readers guessing.

Although viewers know where many relationships eventually lead in the novels, they can’t always predict exactly how or when the television version will arrive there.

That unpredictability appears likely to continue in Season 2.

If Levy’s comments about “lots of tears” are any indication, the adaptation may once again surprise audiences by shifting the timing—or even the presentation—of some of the books’ biggest emotional moments.

While Dean and Allie’s romance will undoubtedly remain at the center of the season, the series also continues investing heavily in its supporting characters.

Fans worried that Hannah and Garrett would disappear after serving as Season 1’s main couple can breathe easy.

Before the Season 2 announcement, stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli reassured viewers that their characters would remain important members of the ensemble moving forward.

Cameli acknowledged that some fans wondered whether each season would completely move on from previous couples.

“I totally understand your concern,” he told Us Weekly.

“But we will be along for the ride the whole time.”

Bright echoed those comments, confirming that audiences should expect Hannah and Garrett to continue appearing throughout future seasons.

“We’re sticking,” she said, with Cameli adding that both actors are excited to discover what Season 2 has in store for their characters.

That ongoing presence mirrors the structure of Kennedy’s novels, where previous protagonists continue appearing long after their own love stories conclude.

Rather than disappearing into the background, they remain close friends whose relationships continue evolving alongside the newer couples.

It’s one of the qualities readers have always appreciated about the Off Campus universe, and the television adaptation seems committed to preserving that sense of community.

The cast’s strong off-screen friendships have also contributed to that chemistry.

What to Know About Off Campus Season 2 So Far: Cast and More

Cameli spoke warmly about working alongside Bright, explaining that having a genuine friendship makes the demanding filming schedule much more enjoyable.

“Doing a job like this would be so miserable if you didn’t like your costar,” he admitted.

Fortunately, that hasn’t been an issue.

“We are so lucky,” Cameli continued. “Ella and I are really, really good friends. We get along so well and we spend a ton of time together on set.”

Bright expressed similar gratitude for the collaborative atmosphere that has developed among the cast.

She described filming the series as an experience built on shared enthusiasm for both the characters and the source material.

“Honestly, we just have so much fun,” she said.

The actress explained that working with performers who genuinely care about telling these stories helps relieve much of the pressure that comes with adapting such beloved novels.

“Everyone is here for the same reason,” Bright said. “It definitely loosens the pressure a lot, because you’re sharing it with all these really great and talented people.”

That sense of camaraderie has become one of the show’s greatest strengths.

Whether the cameras are focused on romance, comedy, heartbreak, or friendship, the cast consistently delivers the kind of natural chemistry that helps make Briar University feel like a real community rather than simply a backdrop for individual love stories.

Now, with production on Season 2 well underway, anticipation continues to grow.

Dean and Allie’s romance promises to deliver the humor, chemistry, and heartfelt moments readers loved in The Score. At the same time, Levy’s warning about “lots of tears” suggests the upcoming season won’t shy away from the emotional challenges that ultimately shape Dean into one of Kennedy’s most beloved characters.

Whether that includes the novel’s heartbreaking family tragedy—or another unexpected twist created specifically for the adaptation—remains one of the biggest questions surrounding the new season.

Until Prime Video reveals more, fans can only speculate.

But if the first season proved anything, it’s that Off Campus isn’t interested in simply recreating the books page by page. Instead, it wants to preserve the emotional heart of Kennedy’s stories while finding new ways to surprise even the most devoted readers.

If Levy’s latest tease is accurate, audiences should probably have a box of tissues ready when Season 2 finally arrives.
