The Boys Season 5 Secretly Unites 3 Star Trek Actors
The Boys has always been headlined by two actors who are also famed for their roles in Star Trek, but season 5 also added a third actor who viewers may not realize was in Star Trek as well. The Boys‘ fifth and final season is zeroing in on its series finale, with fans of Prime Video’s superhero satire preparing for a possible bloodbath.
The Boys season 5, episode 6, “Though the Heavens Fall,” ended with a shocking serve by Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), who handed the last vial of V1 to Homelander (Antony Starr). The most powerful Supe in The Boys universe injected the V1, seemingly becoming immortal and fulfilling his quest to become God.
Homelander becoming the Almighty and building a church to worship him has been central to The Boys‘ fifth and final season, which also introduced a new Supe who styles himself as a charismatic religious leader.
For Star Trek fans in the know, The Boys season 5’s new Supe is also the Prime Video series’ newest link to Gene Roddenberry’s 60-year-old sci-fi franchise, joining Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher and Jack Quaid’s Hughie Campbell.
Daveed Diggs Is The Boys Season 5’s Secret 3rd Star Trek Actor
Daveed Diggs joined The Boys season 5 as Oh Father, but most viewers may not realize Diggs is also in Star Trek. Daveed voiced Commander Tysess in the animated saga Star Trek: Prodigy seasons 1 and 2. Tysess appears in 25 of Star Trek: Prodigy‘s 40 half-hour episodes.
Of course, Daveed Diggs is a Tony and Emmy Award winner who originated the roles of Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette in the Broadway musical Hamilton. An acclaimed writer, singer, rapper, and producer, Diggs has also appeared in Black-ish, played the lead role in Snowpiercer, and voiced characters in Soul and The Little Mermaid.
Daveed Digg’s The Boys role, Oh Father, has nothing in common with Star Trek’s Commander Tysess. The boisterous and charismatic Oh Father cynically throws in his lot with Homelander and becomes the newest member of The Seven, despite being well aware that Homelander is a false Messiah.
Jack Quaid & Karl Urban Have Been Star Trek & The Boys Actors All Along
Karl Urban was done with the Star Trek franchise when he joined The Boys, but Jack Quaid’s time in the final frontier was just beginning. A year after The Boys premiered in 2019, Quaid debuted in the animated half-hour comedy, Star Trek: Lower Decks, as Ensign Bradward Boimler. Jack voiced Brad and his transporter twin, William Boimer, for five seasons.
The Boys‘ cynical and nihilistic universe is far from the optimistic vision of the future Star Trek envisions, but Jack Quaid’s Hughie possesses an undying undercurrent of hope. In a way, so does Karl Urban’s Butcher. Perhaps Daveed Diggs’ Oh Father can still redeem himself and stand against Homelander.
