SANDRA BULLOCK AND NICOLE KIDMAN BRING THE MAGIC BACK TO LONDON FOR ‘PRACTICAL MAGIC 2’ — AS THEIR EMOTIONAL REUNION, GLAMOROUS PREMIERE LOOKS AND THE ARRIVAL OF A NEW GENERATION OF OWENS WOMEN SIGNAL SOMETHING BIGGER! Nearly three decades after the original became a cult favorite despite its disappointing box office run, the actresses reunited as Gillian and Sally Owens, with Joey King and Maisie Williams stepping into the family’s magical legacy as the long-awaited sequel heads to cinemas on September 11.

There was plenty of magic in the air at London’s Leicester Square Odeon as Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunited on the blue carpet for the highly anticipated sequel to their beloved 1998 fantasy romance Practical Magic.

The two Hollywood stars returned to the spotlight Wednesday night for the star-studded premiere of Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after the original film introduced audiences to the unforgettable Owens sisters. Bullock, 62, and Kidman, 59, looked every inch the glamorous leading ladies as they posed together beneath rows of flickering candles, bringing a touch of the supernatural to the London celebration. The leading ladies of Practical Magic 2 Sandra Bullock, 62, and Nicole Kidman, 59, graced the blue carpet at the star-studded premiere for the sequel film on Wednesday night

Kidman embraced the evening’s glamorous mood in a custom silver Chanel gown featuring intricate gold chain detailing. The low-backed design highlighted her athletic frame, while her strawberry blonde hair was styled in loose waves around her shoulders.

Bullock, meanwhile, went for a dramatically different look, stepping onto the blue carpet in a strapless leopard-print Givenchy gown paired with black strappy heels.

Despite their contrasting outfits, the longtime friends appeared completely in sync throughout the evening. They laughed together, held hands for photographs and leaned into one another as they celebrated the return of the characters that helped make the original movie such a cult favorite.

The reunion was particularly meaningful because Practical Magic 2 arrives more than 25 years after the first movie, with Bullock and Kidman once again portraying sisters Gillian and Sally Owens.Dianne Wiest, Maisie Williams, Joey King, Susanne Bier, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, Solly McLeod and Xolo Mariduena

The sequel takes place decades after the events of the original and draws inspiration from Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, which continues the story of the Owens family and its generations of witches.

This time, however, the spotlight is not only on Sally and Gillian.

King, 27, turned heads at the London premiere in a dramatic sheer ensemble, while Williams, 29, opted for a striking red corset-style gown that showcased her tattoos and included silver choker detailing.

The pair appeared to be embracing the same playful chemistry and fashion-forward energy as their on-screen mothers, creating a new generation of Owens women ready to carry the family’s magical legacy forward.

The sequel’s story promises to take the family beyond their Massachusetts home.

According to the film’s synopsis, “The Owens women must once again unite,” traveling from Massachusetts to the United Kingdom to confront the source of their magic and protect the next generation of their family.

That international journey gives the sequel an opportunity to expand the world established in the original film while maintaining the family-centered story that made Practical Magic so enduring.

Sally and Gillian were raised by their eccentric aunts, Bridget and Frances, played by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing. Both actresses are returning for the sequel, bringing back two of the original film’s most memorable supporting characters.

Wiest appeared in particularly high spirits at the premiere, joining the younger cast members and adding to the nostalgic atmosphere surrounding the event.

The return of the original stars has been years in the making.

Bullock and Kidman surprised fans earlier this month when they appeared together at a Cinespia screening of the original Practical Magic at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. Bullock reportedly joked that Practical Magic was the perfect movie to screen in a cemetery, an appropriately spooky setting for a film about witches, family curses and supernatural romance.

Kidman, meanwhile, thanked the audience for helping support the return of the franchise and expressed her appreciation for finally getting the second movie made.

Their appearance offered fans a glimpse of the bond that has remained between the two actresses since the original film.

Bullock and Kidman confirmed in 2024 that they would reprise their respective roles as Sally and Gillian, ending years of speculation about whether the sisters would ever return.

For fans who grew up watching Practical Magic, seeing them together again is arguably just as important as the sequel itself.

The original film was not an immediate box-office success. Practical Magic earned approximately $68.3 million worldwide, falling short of its reported $75 million production budget. Yet commercial disappointment did little to stop the movie from developing a passionate following.Sandra opted for a strapless leopard print gown from Givenchy and black strappy heels as they posed amid rows of candles

Over the years, Practical Magic became a genuine cult classic.

Its mixture of romance, sisterhood, witchcraft, family drama and dark comedy found an audience that continued discovering and celebrating the movie long after its theatrical run. Halloween screenings, fan events and social media tributes helped keep the Owens sisters firmly embedded in pop culture.

That enduring popularity eventually created demand for more stories about the family.

Hoffman returned to the Owens universe with The Book of Magic in 2021, years after the original novel and movie had introduced the characters.

The author previously explained that readers had repeatedly contacted her asking for another story.

“I got mail from readers saying that they wanted to have a sequel, that they wanted to know what happened to the characters,” Hoffman said.

Rather than immediately moving forward in time, however, Hoffman became interested in exploring the family’s history.

She returned to an earlier period, setting part of the story in 1960s New York City’s Greenwich Village, an era and location she particularly enjoyed writing about.

That novel ultimately provided the foundation for the new film’s story.

Behind the camera, Practical Magic 2 brings together an experienced creative team. Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original 1998 screenplay, has returned to work on the sequel alongside Kelly Marcel and Georgia Pritchett.

Bullock and Kidman are also serving as producers, while Susanne Bier directs.

The combination of returning stars and new creative voices should allow the sequel to retain the spirit of the original while giving the story room to evolve.

There is also plenty of new talent joining the established cast.

Lee Pace and Solly McLeod are among the actors appearing in the sequel, adding further characters to a story that now spans multiple generations of the Owens family.Joey King and Maisie Williams emulated Nicole and Sandra's close bond

But the emotional center remains Sally and Gillian.

The sisters have spent their lives dealing with the consequences of being born into a family with a complicated magical history. Their abilities have never simply been a source of power. They have also brought gossip, fear and unwanted attention from the people around them.

Now their daughters are inheriting that same legacy.

That makes the sequel more than a simple nostalgia project.

It becomes a story about mothers and daughters, family history and whether the next generation can find a different relationship with the magic that has shaped the Owens women for centuries.

The London premiere offered a fitting celebration for that idea.Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing played the eccentric witch aunts named Bridget and  Frances in the film

Bullock and Kidman looked visibly delighted to be reunited, while King and Williams appeared ready to step into the next chapter of the family saga. With Wiest and Channing also returning, the movie brings together much of the original cast while introducing a younger generation capable of carrying the franchise forward.

And after nearly 30 years, the Owens family is finally back.

Practical Magic 2 arrives in cinemas on September 11, bringing Sally, Gillian and the next generation of witches back to the big screen. Whether the sequel can capture the peculiar charm that turned the original into a cult classic remains to be seen, but the reunion alone has already given longtime fans plenty to celebrate.

The magic, it seems, was never really gone.

It was simply waiting for the Owens women to come back together.
