Things are looking increasingly promising for fans of Taylor Sheridan’s Special Ops: Lioness, even though Paramount+ has yet to officially announce a fourth season. After three seasons of brutal missions, shifting loyalties and high-stakes intelligence operations, the series appears to have quietly dropped a major clue about what could come next.

The potential reveal comes from writer Michael Idov, whose recent social media post suggests that he and Lily Idov have joined Lioness as writers and supervising producers. The timing of the announcement is especially intriguing because Season 3 is still unfolding, making it unlikely that the pair are being brought in simply to finish the current story.

“Lily and I have joined LIONESS, Taylor Sheridan’s global smash hit, as writers and supervising producers,” Idov wrote. “An honor, chance, and challenge of a lifetime to write for the likes of Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman. See you in the trenches.”

Paramount+ has not yet formally confirmed that Lioness has been renewed for Season 4, and neither Sheridan nor the streamer has publicly announced a new season. Still, Idov’s wording has understandably sent fans into overdrive because it sounds like the creative team is already preparing for the show’s next chapter.

That would line up remarkably well with comments from Jill Wagner, who has been one of the loudest voices predicting that Lioness will return.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Wagner was unusually confident when asked about the possibility of another season. Rather than offering the usual cautious answer actors give when discussing an unannounced renewal, she essentially guaranteed it.

“We’re going to get a Season 4. We will, we will,” Wagner said. “When people see what [Taylor Sheridan] wrote for the finale, we are getting a Season 4. Or I will pay you $100.”

That is a bold promise, particularly for a series whose previous seasons have largely been designed as self-contained stories. Both Season 1 and Season 2 reached definitive conclusions without relying on enormous cliffhangers to guarantee another installment.

Season 3 could apparently change that formula.

If Wagner is right, Sheridan may have written a finale that deliberately leaves the door open for another mission. And with Idov now publicly identifying himself as part of the Lioness writing team, the possibility of Season 4 suddenly feels much less speculative.

For fans, that could be significant because Lioness has always occupied an interesting position within Sheridan’s growing television universe. Unlike Yellowstone, Tulsa King or Landman, the series does not depend on a single location or family saga. Its premise allows Sheridan to move his characters around the world and introduce entirely new geopolitical conflicts whenever the story demands it.

That flexibility could make Lioness particularly well suited to a long-running format.

The series follows the CIA’s covert Lioness program, focusing on female operatives who are placed in extraordinarily dangerous situations in order to infiltrate terrorist organizations and other high-value targets. The missions are often brutal, morally complicated and physically demanding, while the characters are forced to navigate the personal consequences of their work.

That combination has helped distinguish Lioness from many conventional military thrillers.

The show’s action is certainly a major attraction, but its focus on women working inside an overwhelmingly male military and intelligence environment gives it another layer. The characters aren’t simply presented as invincible action heroes. Their relationships, fears, sacrifices and emotional costs are frequently just as important as the firefights.

Wagner has previously explained how important that balance was to her when she first developed the concept.

The actress and producer spent years working on the idea before eventually bringing it to Sheridan. She wanted the series to reflect the real women she had encountered in the military rather than turning the premise into a glossy fantasy.

“I didn’t want this show to become Barbies with guns,” Wagner told Parade. “I wanted it to represent the women I knew and respected in the military, and he’s done that brilliantly.”

That philosophy has remained central to Lioness throughout its run.

The series is inspired by the real-life U.S. military Lioness teams that operated during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Those teams were created to allow female service members to work alongside combat units in circumstances where cultural restrictions made interactions between male soldiers and local women difficult.

The real program eventually became part of the broader integration of women into combat roles, but Sheridan’s series takes the concept and turns it into a fictionalized world of CIA operations, undercover missions and international espionage.

At the center of that world is Zoe Saldaña’s Joe, the formidable operative who has become one of the defining characters of the franchise.

Saldaña’s performance has helped give the series its emotional anchor, while Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman bring additional weight to the intelligence side of the story. Wagner, Laysla De Oliveira and Genesis Rodriguez have also played important roles across the series, supported by recurring performers including Dave Annable, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Thad Luckinbill and Michael Kelly.

The ensemble has allowed Sheridan to tell stories that extend beyond a single protagonist, which could prove particularly useful if Season 4 becomes reality.

There is also a practical reason to believe the next season could arrive relatively quickly if Paramount+ gives it the green light.

The first three seasons have followed a relatively consistent development cycle, with approximately a year passing between official greenlights and premieres. If Season 4 is formally announced while the writing process is already underway, production could potentially move forward without the lengthy delays that have affected some of Sheridan’s other projects.

That could put a fall 2027 premiere within reach.

Of course, that remains speculation until Paramount+ makes an official announcement. Idov’s post does not explicitly state that Lioness Season 4 has been ordered, and it is possible that the creative arrangements are still being finalized behind the scenes.

But the combination of evidence is difficult for fans to ignore.

Lioness remains one of Paramount+’s strongest performers, Season 3 has continued the show’s reputation for intense action, and Wagner has openly suggested that Sheridan has written a finale designed to demand another chapter. Now a new writer has publicly announced that he has joined the series as part of its creative team.

Put all of that together, and the picture becomes increasingly convincing.

The biggest question may no longer be whether Lioness can return, but what Sheridan has planned for it if it does.

A Season 4 could continue the story of Joe, introduce an entirely new generation of operatives or combine both approaches. Because the show’s premise is built around constantly changing missions, there is no shortage of possibilities. The next Lioness team could be sent somewhere completely different, facing a threat unrelated to the conflicts of previous seasons.

And if Wagner’s prediction about the Season 3 finale proves accurate, fans may not have to wait long to discover where the story is heading.

For now, Paramount+ remains officially silent. But Michael Idov’s announcement has given viewers something they desperately wanted: a reason to believe the Lioness program isn’t finished yet.

After three seasons of dangerous missions, heartbreaking sacrifices and Sheridan’s trademark chaos, it increasingly looks like there may be another operation waiting in the shadows.

And if Season 4 really is coming, fans may soon discover that the biggest surprise was hiding in the finale all along.
